Countable and Uncountable Nouns

5 min

Master the usage of much, many, and exam-favorite singular nouns.

1

The Golden Grammar Rule

Countable nouns take plural 's' and use 'many' or 'few'. Uncountable nouns like information and furniture never take an 's' or 'a/an', and use 'much' or 'little'. The amount of an Uncountable noun is always treated as singular.

2

Why this matters for Exams

  • Repeatedly asked in SSC CGL, CHSL, and MTS error spotting.
  • Key to solving Subject-Verb Agreement questions correctly.
  • Prevents silly mistakes in Sentence Improvement sections.

Memory Hooks

  • Mnemonic: F.L.I.P.S (Furniture, Luggage, Information, Poetry, Scenery) - All singular!
  • Uncountable = No 'S' (Suffix) and No 'A/An' (Article).
  • Many is for numbers, Much is for mass.
