Active to Passive Conversion

6 min

Master the Object-Verb-Subject swap and tense-wise be + V3 rules.

1

The Golden Rule

Active voice focuses on the subject, while passive voice shifts focus to the object. The subject and object swap places, and the main verb always changes to V3 preceded by a suitable form of be.

2

Why This Matters

  • Directly fetches 2 to 3 marks in SSC, Railway, and Defence exams.
  • Crucial for spotting subtle errors in sentence improvement questions.
  • Forms the bedrock of indirect speech and advanced sentence structuring.

Smart Memory Hooks

  • Active = Doer first; Passive = Receiver first.
  • No V3 without 'be', no passive without an object.
  • Intransitive verbs? Leave them untouched in active form!
