Basics

  • Sashastra Seema Bal was raised in 1963 as Special Service Bureau after the 1962 conflict.
  • Renamed Sashastra Seema Bal in 2001 and placed under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Declared a Border Guarding Force in 2001 for the Indo-Nepal border and in 2004 for the Indo-Bhutan border.
  • Motto: Service, Security and Brotherhood (Seva, Suraksha, Bandhutva).

Discipline

  • SSB personnel are governed by the SSB Act, 2007 and SSB Rules, 2009.
  • The Act provides Force Courts and offences on the BSF/ITBP pattern.
  • Departmental enquiry, punishment and appeal follow the Rules read with CCS provisions.
