Overview

  • Regulates acquisition, possession, manufacture, sale, import and transport of arms and ammunition.
  • Arms are classified as Prohibited Bore (PB) and Non-Prohibited Bore (NPB).
  • Arms Rules, 2016 replaced the Arms Rules, 1962.

  • Possession without a valid licence is punishable; unlicensed PB weapons attract heavier punishment.
  • A licence holder may generally keep a limited number of firearms as per current rules.
  • Force personnel carrying government arms act under authority of issue and duty orders.
